A 4 week stay in Blackpool for EH Brown Fencing proved to be no holiday as 2 installation teams overcame tough working conditions and a troublesome site for Trant Construction at the Radar Station for Blackpool Airport.
The site is located on marshlands, that during our installation in October 2010 was particularly waterlogged. The specification of the fencing on the project included a trench that enabled the Mesh Panel System to be buried for additional security, the problem with this being that as soon as the trench was dug, it filled with water, meaning that it had to be pumped virtually continuously in order to be able to dig the post holes (which were also then immediately immersed in water).
A batch mixed concrete was then sourced and used on site to create 500mm x 500mm by 1m deep pad stones for the fence posts to sit on top of, ensuring that the weight of the fencing did not cause the entire fence to sink into the sodden ground.
Despite the on site challenges and the cruel October weather, the installation teams successfully erected over 200m of 3.2m high “Prison Mesh” fencing, including 2 pairs of gates which Trant Construction and their client Raytheon were very happy with.
